Hand made cards of the day

Hand made cards of the day
Two cards to show you!

This is a 5×7″ card. I originally was going to do a colourful vibrant card but when I stamped the tiger (from Sheena’s India collection) I immediately fell in love with the contrast of the image and I decided not to colour it in.
I then rummaged through my stash of card and find some printed vellum that was hidden. This was bought at a craft fair I went to.
The tiger image and the sentiment were both stamped on to Sheena’s stamping card with Staz-On ink. I then matted and layered them on to the patterned vellum. The ribbon is double satin and I have added a dazzler gem on top.

Here’s a close up of the tiger.

Now this second card is more vibrant with a marbled effect. Again it is a 5×7″ card. I first made the background by blending distress inks then I spritzed water and blotted it with some tissue for a bleached effect.
The flower was stamped several times, glittered cut out and layered with collall 3d clear glue gel. I added a stamped sentiment and a ribbon from my stash which has been tinted with distress inks to match the card more. Again dazzler gems have been added.

Hand made card of the day

Hand made card of the day

Today I FINALLY played with my A4 embossing folders from the “A taste of India” collection by Sheena Douglass. As pictured above is the outcome of my playing!
I recently bought Sheena’s stamping card as she claimed the inks used on her card would blend so much better. I raised my eyebrow and challenged this. I stamped an image with distress ink on card from my stash and wet a brush and wet over it. The ink did not budge. My word! She was RIGHT! A few days later Sheena’s card arrived so I whipped it out of the package and tested it and you guessed it the ink blended without a problem!
For the embossed card I made I used Distress inks in Mowed Lawn, Peeled paint, Evergreen bough, Mustard seed and Scattered straw. I blended these inks on the leaves in the different shades. I then applied creative expressions gilding wax in enchanted gold on to the leaves and buffed. I then used the pearl moon wax on the un embossed area.

So after all my colourful playing I made this 5×7″ card! The embossed card was used as the background. I then stamped an elephant from “A taste of India range” (I have the whole collection) and water coloured in with distress inks in Pumice stone, Rippled raspberry and Mowed lawn. I applied Anita’s 3D gloss and allowed to dry then cut it out and applied on to the card.
The “Keep calm and dream big sentiment” was done by blending the inks and then glittering the edges. Again I applied gloss. The pink flourishes are Marianne Dies. The leaf was stamped, blended and cut out with a craft knife!

Hand made card of the day

Hand made card of the day

This is an 5×5″ card. I have used Dreamees stamps (beautiful blossoms and a sentiment from the dainty doodles set) Bazzill card stock and my own handmade background card (using Sheena Douglass’ technique with H2o’s, water and a sponge). I have also used pearl embellishments and a scrap of braid I had in my stash :).

Hand made card of the day

Hand made card of the day

This is an 8×8″ card. I have used Sheena Douglass’ stamps from the “A little bit scenic collection” called Sea shells. Again I have used bazzill card-stock, I have embossed the shells with a mix of cosmic shimmer and wow! powders on to pearlised card. The sentiment was stamped with a distress ink pad and I distressed the edges with some blending foam. To finish the card I embellished with pearls.

Paint with Distress inks tutorial!

Paint with Distress inks tutorial!
whey! Here’s my first tutorial for you guys. As mentioned in my previous post I bought my first mini set of distress ink pads. They are fabulous.
I recall watching a demo being done on create and craft a while ago not sure who or what show it was. They were using a white tile and applying water colour from pens on to it so it became a pallet. When I saw this being demonstrated I remembered that distress inks were bendable on a craft mat so I thought let’s use a white tile and add water!

You will need:

  • A water Spritzer
  • A paint brush
  • Distress inks mini set 1 (Pickled Raspberry,Mustard seed, Peacock feathers and spiced marmalade)
  • White ceramic Tile (I backed mine with some foam so it wouldn’t damage my table)
  • A water container
  • Anita’s 3D Gloss
  • Memento Ink pad in Tuxedo black
  • Floral rubber/clear stamps (I used Stamps by chloe ones)
  • Stamping card

 Step one

Stamp your chosen image several times on to stamping card allowing a space between each image (for cutting and any colour that goes over the lines)

Step two

Get your white tile and begin to apply distress inks directly to it (two or three dabs should do the trick) Get your paint brush loaded with some water not too much though as we need the ink to “flow” At this stage you can mix the colours to create shades of purple and green.

 Step three
Proceed to colour your image in. As you can see I coloured the centre of the flower first and allowed it to dry. I then applied the next colour and over layed it slightly (this creates a new shade) It is important to work at a steady pace here as this ink does dry relatively quickly.

 Step four
Once your images are all coloured in begin to thoroughly spritz your card you need it to be damp but not soaking! The card may curl slightly but it can be bent back to shape. Watch the ink as it magically bleaches in dots before your eyes (I love this part). Now allow the card to dry or if your impatient use a heat tool!

Step five
Next apply Anita’s gloss directly to your coloured images, do not shake the bottle as it can cause air bubbles. If you do get air bubbles just prick them with a pin. The gloss will look slightly cloudy when applied but it does dry clear! Once all images are glossed allow to dry. The bottle states that it dries completely in four hours but this depends how heavily you apply the gloss. It only took mine an hour to dry.

  Step six
Cut out your images neatly. You can shape them gently with an embossing tool and mat if you so wish but be careful not to crack the gloss. Now you can layer these flowers up or just use them as toppers/embellishments for card!

This is an 8×8″ card. I have used Stamps by Chloe (fabulous dress, Medium 8 petal and small 8 petal) Bazzill cardstock, American Crafts papers and a Marianne frame die. Pearl embellishments were also added.
