Paint with Distress inks tutorial!
I recall watching a demo being done on create and craft a while ago not sure who or what show it was. They were using a white tile and applying water colour from pens on to it so it became a pallet. When I saw this being demonstrated I remembered that distress inks were bendable on a craft mat so I thought let’s use a white tile and add water!
You will need:
- A water Spritzer
- A paint brush
- Distress inks mini set 1 (Pickled Raspberry,Mustard seed, Peacock feathers and spiced marmalade)
- White ceramic Tile (I backed mine with some foam so it wouldn’t damage my table)
- A water container
- Anita’s 3D Gloss
- Memento Ink pad in Tuxedo black
- Floral rubber/clear stamps (I used Stamps by chloe ones)
- Stamping card

Step one
Stamp your chosen image several times on to stamping card allowing a space between each image (for cutting and any colour that goes over the lines)
Step two
Get your white tile and begin to apply distress inks directly to it (two or three dabs should do the trick) Get your paint brush loaded with some water not too much though as we need the ink to “flow” At this stage you can mix the colours to create shades of purple and green.
Step three
Proceed to colour your image in. As you can see I coloured the centre of the flower first and allowed it to dry. I then applied the next colour and over layed it slightly (this creates a new shade) It is important to work at a steady pace here as this ink does dry relatively quickly.
Step four
Once your images are all coloured in begin to thoroughly spritz your card you need it to be damp but not soaking! The card may curl slightly but it can be bent back to shape. Watch the ink as it magically bleaches in dots before your eyes (I love this part). Now allow the card to dry or if your impatient use a heat tool!
Step five
Next apply Anita’s gloss directly to your coloured images, do not shake the bottle as it can cause air bubbles. If you do get air bubbles just prick them with a pin. The gloss will look slightly cloudy when applied but it does dry clear! Once all images are glossed allow to dry. The bottle states that it dries completely in four hours but this depends how heavily you apply the gloss. It only took mine an hour to dry.
Step six
Cut out your images neatly. You can shape them gently with an embossing tool and mat if you so wish but be careful not to crack the gloss. Now you can layer these flowers up or just use them as toppers/embellishments for card!
